colonized with mycelium,
recommended to inoculate 1 log

The Tree Oyster is very simple in cultivation. It may bring your colesterol back in balance!
Out in the nature, Pleurotus ostreatus is distributed in deciduous woodlands all around the temperated and sub tropic klimate zones. In Central Europe the oyster will bare fruit bodies from september till december. The mycelium of this pleurotus species is very robust, therfor it is very popular in comericial cultivation. Fruiting bodies get a diameter of 5 to 5 cm. The cap is greyish brown to violet. The oyster mushroom has white spores.
The inoculation of logs with mushroom cultures can be done during the whole year, if the logs are stored frost-protected while spawn run. According to species, mushrooms will fruit several years, till all nutrients of the wood have been consumed by the fungus. The Enokitake grows only on dead wood, healthy trees will not be colonized by this mushroom species!
Growing conditions:
Spawn run: 24 °C
Primordia formation: 10 - 15 ° C
Fruiting: 10 – 21 ° C
For a perfect yield, the quality of the logs is essential! Please use hardwood (most suitable: oak, beech, cottonwood, maple, aspen, elm, ash, birch, willow). Let the log dry for approx. 4 – 5 weeks after felling. For inoculation with the dowels the log have been preperated: duck for 3 days in water (log should be complete coverd with water). After this let the log dry for approx. 2 days in the sun. We recommend to use logs (with bark!) diameter approx. 20 -35 cm length 50 bis 80 cm.
